Hello,

We have adopted a rescue chicken! She was being attacked by her flock and was hiding away when she was given to us.

We live on the road working renaissance faires, and are a couple of serious chicken enthusiasts!! Have raised chickens on an organic farm at one of our locations in New York. We have been wanting to raise them again for a while now, but were quite surprised when our new friend arrived this morning!

Her name is Red, and she's a little beat up! but she seems to be adjusting to her new home. We're just finishing her new coop renovation now, so pictures of that to come!

Any advice is welcome on keeping a solo chicken, not the best for socializing but as was said, she sort of fell in our lap!!

Cute coop! Be careful when using chicken wire though. Predators can easily reach through and tear a chicken's head off through the big gaps. Try and use hardware cloth instead.

Hope she recovers fully!

Mountain Peeps X2 You need to cover that chicken wire with hardware cloth. Predators will rip that stuff completely apart and eat your bird in no time. Always always use hardware cloth.

But it sounds like you are giving her a lovely life!! If you keep a solitary bird, you will need to spend a lot of time with her every day. Birds are very social and need each other. So you will need to take the place of a flock.

X3 on hardware cloth. Not only are there a lot of predators that can tear through chicken wire, but there are others than can squeeze through the openings in the mesh and make short work of your chickens. Hardware cloth has saved many chicken owners a lot of tears.
