this is what the red spot looks like...




any idea?
my mom was saying that the farmer said to clean them with a warm soft paper towel to get any egg to come off. i highly doubt this is part of the egg/shell

Looks like a swollen navel, probably caused by humidity issues.

It looks to me like it might be a small umbilical hernia. If you type in hernia into the search forum, you will get all kinds of information. One thing I know for sure though is to keep the chick separated until it's healed otherwise the other chicks will peck at it and could really hurt or kill her. Unfortunately I learned that first hand
