hello we have a 3 year old redco hen , with signs of egg binding, tail down and wadling been on and off for a week, we have warm bathed her oiled her vent and I have tried to help her lay but the egg inside feels like a long squished hard bar of lumpy soap bout 4 inches long 1 inch wide, when i tried to help her lay it looks like she will prolapse even though i turned the lump to face pointy end out, is there anything I can do,

Hi, don't know if this will help you or not but I'll tell you my story. I had a hen with a broken shell inside her, I could see she was trying to push it out and I grabbed it but it hurt her if I tugged. So I did the time honored tradition of warm bath. She did not like it at all. I thought, has anyone gave their bird an enema? I took mineral oil, a syringe (large - no needle on it of course), and warm water (test on your wrist like you would for a baby). Mix a little mineral oil with the warm water, suck it up in the syringe and with a towel over her head inject it into her vent. I had my DH help - does help to have two people, one to make sure she stays still. The warm water helped her relax enough for the shell to pass, the mineral oil lubricated all of her insides so everything slides. Wear gloves of course. I had to stick a finger up there to help pull some shell out. But she got through it just fine no scratches.
