Hi Friends! I had hoped my first post would not be one of concern, but here we are. This is the 6th chick to hatch today and it took about 8hours from first pip to exit. Is this little blob still attached something to be concerned with? I didn’t know if it was umbilical cord, or it’s insides coming out. I have 5 other babies in the incubator and wanted to be sure they would not get sick. Thank you!

This is 100% just a question, NOT advice, but should you isolate that little one from the others so they don’t peck at the red blob? Or will that be more likely to harm pipping chicks than help this one? 🤔
Yes, chicks with unabsorbed yolk sacs should be placed in a cup lined with paper towels, and left in the incubator until it is absorbed. This is to A. Keep the yolk clean from bacteria, B. Keep the yolk sac from rupturing, and C prevent other chicks from pecking at it.

Good question!

Had this issue with a chick and eventually he got out of said cup. Was louder inside of it. Hopefully it dries up soon so he can come out of the incubator.

Sometimes they are able to get out, that's why it's important to use one that's the right size, and if they try to get out, the lid may need to be covered with breathable material.
If the yolk is very small and mostly dried up, they can usually come out of the cup as long as they remain in a clean dry space
