Redinator's First Hatch-Along w Bonus Broody: Extended Edition

On a more serious note though . . . that henhouse (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DRJCDQDN?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_8&th=1) would make a great outdoor brooder.

I just need to remove the solid doors and add hardware cloth (screen doors) for better ventilation. I could run an extension cord from my bedroom window for a brooder plate or two and I'd be back in business.

When the girls were only laying eggs in it I just left both doors and Daisy, my dog, never bothered them.
That would make a really good brooder. Take out the nest box dividers and add a heating plate in a corner of it and now they have a perfect dark, warm corner to retreat to and lots of room to play

I plan to switch the girls to an 8 bay nesting box in the run for laying and brooding so I don't have anymore issues with Daisy and broodies.

I went to check on Sweety and her brood. After they'd been out in the run most the day they couldn't figure out how to get back in the pen when she wanted to take them to bed in the chick hut. Needless to say Sweety was frantic because they were between the run wall and pen wall and she couldn't get to them. I rescued them and she took them to bed.

Now that I know they're safe in the run with the other chickens I'll remove the pen tomorrow, but I'll leave the chick hut for them to sleep in. Always something new to learn.

And you have to make room for peacocks, turkeys, quail, peasants, ducks, and geese
The only thing on that list my friend doesn't have is peacocks . . . one of the many reasons he wants land out in the middle of nowhere.

Once I raised my first two batches of chicks (10) I mentioned wanting a few more. He got me some $1 chicks at TSC, the current 9 week olds (18 of them) and I got a few more the current 8 week old (8 more) then I hatched some (9) then my broody hatched a few more (3).

I'm told if I ever lose count I have too many . . .so I keep detailed records, lol

I'm sure the $1 chicks were his way of getting me hooked, not that I wasn't well on my way . . .all on my own . . .but I was holding out for certain breeds. Oddly enough I still don't have Marans or Cream Legbars though, lol.

I think you need more jerseys. They are the best
