Only Day 5 . . . ugh!

I did toy around a bit with candling to see if I could get good pictures today, and I think I have it figured out.

I borrowed my son's tripod and set my phone in it. After still having trouble with trying to snap photos of each egg I decided to just record a video. I used yard eggs because I didn't want to handle the eggs in incubator unnecessarily.

Yes, I candled them in my bathroom since it's the only room in the house with zero windows.

BTW it does irk me a tiny bit that we can't just share videos on this site . . . anywho.

Just a note: The first egg did not crack and I'll be using a foam egg carton with the incubator eggs instead of the hard plastic one I usually keep on my kitchen counter.

So my previous batch of chicks came down with coccidiosis and just finished their 5 day Corid treatment.

These new chicks will be getting medicated feed from day 1 but I'm wondering how long they should be on the medicated feed indoors, before going outside.

My gut says medicated feed indoors for at least a week, then slowly bring in bits of grass and soil to help them build their resistance for at least another week. Does that sound right?

Medicated feed is fed untill approximately 14 to 16 weeks of age, these are the most critical weeks in the development of the immune system. After this age they can begin to deal with Coccidiosis easier with less mortality in the flock.
