Redinator's First Hatch-Along

Just know, there is no such thing as only hatching one batch. Once you start it's insane the things you'll tell yourself to make hatching yet another batch ok.
I definitely believe that. My neighbor has an incubator. She bought it maybe March or April-ish, to hatch out some turkey eggs from her hens. It has literally been going nonstop since then with either turkeys or her brahmas. She's got turkeys hatching out today, matter of fact.

The one I'm planning to get will hold 22 eggs. I want to hatch out zombie chicks but their eggs aren't exactly cheap. So I was only planning to get 6. But then that leaves so many open spots. 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️

And it begins :lau

Also, keep in mind half will be males, so have a plan for them before you buy an incubator.
Yeah I will definitely sell the males. Or offer them free. Depending on what they are. Any BYMs I think I'd just give away. Some other pure breeds, maybe not. Chicks seem to sell very quickly where I live, so I hope I'll have good luck when that time comes.

I noticed it's harder to get sell/give away young cockerels. Generally if people are looking for a rooster, they want a rooster. So be prepared to have them until they're around 12-14 weeks old.

My friend that got me into this is such an enabler. I showed him the page from Hoover's and he asked if I needed to borrow money to get them, lol.
Now that's a great friend! My neighbor that I keep mentioning is a good friend as well, and we enable each other. I added chicks to my Meyer order for her so we could split the shipping. Every time one of us in TSC or RK, we text each other with a list of what they've currently got.

I told him I don't plan to get them until Sweety's five eggs are closer to hatching around the 4th of September so there are other chicks in the yard the same age.

He asked if he could choose a few breeds . . knowing him I'll end up with turkeys, geese and ducks, and probably some naked necks.

I told him if he fronts the cash I'll raise them, but anything that isn't a chicken he better come get after 4 weeks. lol

Lol that sounds like a good deal to me!
