Redinator's First Hatch-Along

You don't really notice when they're all growing at the same rate.

My last batch of chicks contains a Blue Jersey Giant, several standard sized breeds and some bantams . . . the Jersey Giant is massive in comparison to the Bantams, which are week older.
I bet my next ones coming next month are Orpingtons. And I'm not going to know what to think after raising 2 batches of bantams.

We're down to 10 ☹️ . I came back in after checking on everybody in the yard and spending some time with the 7 and 8 week olds and Finley was motionless under the brooder plate.

I also realized Finley's pip mate never got a name yet . . . :idunno
I'm so sorry. 😪 I know it can't be easy, but you really did everything in your power to save Finley and keep him it hey comfortable.

The surprising thing was Daisy didn't come out in the yard with me. She stayed by the brooder the whole time I was in the yard. :love
She probably knew. Different scenario and a very long story, but I once had a German Shepherd mix that always slept in my son's room. For 2 nights, she slept in between the cribs in my twin girls' bedroom, when they were 11 months old. Our girls were preemies (3 months early) and one of them had serious complications. On the second night that Kate slept in their room, we lost our little girl. Kate never slept in there again. I know she knew, somehow.

Daisy is definitely a very empathetic dog. She can read me like a book and whenever I'm upset she won't leave my side, or tries to distract me from my problems with play . . .which usually works.

My dad also has an aid (Deanna) that comes twice a week and Daisy will hang out with her if I'm busy, but generally stays with me most of the time.

One day I could tell Deanna was visibly upset about something, but I didn't want to pry. Daisy kept whining at her, putting her head on Deanna's knee, bringing her toys. Next thing I know Deanna's crying into Daisy's coat she hugged her and said "Thanks girly, I needed that." Turns out she broke up with her boyfriend that morning.
