We raised 6 reds from chicks they are 18 months old. They started laying right on schedule and did great. About 7 months ago the lead hen was unfortunately eaten by a bobcat. Since then only 1 hen lays every day. The other 4 have completely stopped. Any suggestions on getting the other 4 back into the groove?
We live in Central Florida so weather isn't really a problem.

:welcome :frow I live near Ocala. We have a couple of monthly farm swaps. The birds probably recently went through their yearly molt. My Reds aren't the best layers during the winter months after going through their molting. Good luck and have fun...

Welcome. Are they sex links? Sometimes they just stop laying after a year or two. You could try feeding a higher protein ration to see if you can jump start the system again. Higher production hens often need a higher protein and they become deficient in it after a season or two. I recommend 20-22% for a bit than dropping to 18-20% if they start back up.

Thanks for the responses. They are RIR's. Molt probably to blame. I'll give then through the spring before I take any action.
