Reducing Draft

Hello! I'm renovating an old coop my parents have to improve ventilation. A concern I have is that there's gaps that allow drafts to affect the birds when roosting. My plan is to place a square sheet of wood over the planks to cover the gaps, but I wondered if there would be a better way. I searched the forums but only found stuff on ventilation. If anyone has some input I'd appreciate it. I have attached photos.

Board and batten would also work.

You could pull a line of caulking in between the boards.

Just dont use spray expanding foam insulation. The chickens will eat it.
