Reeves- A Visitor

We bought large mealworm at Petsmart yesterday and I gave about three of them to Jimmy along with the seed mixture. He went after them first so he seems to like them. How many worms a day should he be eating? Also, this was for a trial and if we are to give the worms to him everyday, perhaps I need to buy them in bulk from elsewhere. Any thoughts?

If you plan on doing that grow them yourselves it's alot cheaper.
All you need to do it get a lg container buy some meal worms not the x large ones because they won't produce large ones they give them a hormone or something like that not sure, buy some oats slice up potatoes they use them for water and wait for a while and you will see them reproduce. You will get the blk bugs and then they lay there eggs which produce the worms.
Then you know exactly what you are giving your bird.

Thanks for the tip. We will try that. Even though it does not get very cold here often, are there any special accommodations (garage storage, heating etc) required to raise the worms? As to my other question, how many worms a day should be fed to him?

I keep mine in a heated garage. If it is to cold they will hibernate and not do anything until they get warm. I wouldn't feed it to him everyday and I would only do 6-8 but that is up to you.I forgot to mention place a lid on top and drill holes in it so they can breath.
