Refeeding Eggs After using Ivermectin, Suspected Gapeworm

Don't panic when I say this, but the main disease you see blood with like that is ILT, which is Infectious Laryngotracheitis, but I dont know that the other symtoms fit that. They wipe their beaks on their feathers and get blood splatters on roosts, walls, etc. Hopefully, someone who has had this in their flock can comment on those other symptoms. Doesn't seem to me the other symptoms fit exactly and that would be a good thing because ILT is a nasty disease.

I have never had a run in with gape worm. Please do let us know if this solves your problem.

injectable ivernmectin is for horses and you can administer this orally to chickens. Eprinex is a topical application. Follow the directions on the product. Do a google search on Ivercide to see which application you have.

ILT is viral. Canker is due to a protozoan infection. I don't know if either of these is an adequate explanation, but gapeworms isn't either.

I have looked into ILA, but am just not sure about it. One pro poultry sell/keeper out here said it was highly unlikely from what I described and my birds are very isolated. I don't associate with anyone who has chickens and when I go into their coop/area, I use shoes that are only to go in and out of there. Even the rare guest must wear these shoes and NOT be a chicken owner or have visited if they are going to handle or go near my girls. Not saying they couldn't get it though. Everyone seems to be in good health. But the blood does really bug me. She is not bleeding now, nor has she since I've had her in the kennel in the house for nearly 3 days now.

They do eat slugs and worms from their aviary floor and that is where the gapeworm comes from. I am VERY open to other's opinions, experiences and advice right now. I will take all precautions and therapies recommended.

Sure hope you figure this out. I have my own mystery today, a pullet who is about 24 weeks old, never laid an egg, and her heart is racing and she seems out of breath. Cant get into anything, no poisons, nothing. I hope I dont lose her. The mysteries are the worst!

I hope things work out for her and for you. We don't have but one vet around here that will see chickens and I don't think he knows a lot, plus he's expensive. We seem to have to become our own poultry veteranarians and thankfully we have the BYC Forum to help. I have a friend who works at a another vet's office, so I can get meds at cost. I haven't had to use anything up to now to treat Dora. She seems to still be doing well.

I've given drops to the back of the neck on half the girls now and no ill effects. I'm just sad I don't have eggs for two weeks, but I've stocked up for my own stash, just my neighbors will be bummed there won't be any for sale for a while.
