I just found out.....

.... I was excited and had to explain to my Non horsey son...

No no other countries run horses
Not all horses who race are raced int all three
Not all horses are fit enough to run the last one
Much less win the last one or even all three

Good race! No broken legs! A Triple Crown Winner! I watched the race on line.

Dang, I was immersed in Backyard chickens - new members etc. My brother sent me an email that American Pharaoh won the triple crown - of course this is the first time I missed watching. Maybe that was good luck for the horse.

That was a pretty big field for a Belmont. It may not have been the most exciting for the fans, but the strategy worked - keep him out of trouble by taking him right to the front, and win the thing going away. It's amazing to see a horse finish a race as long as the Belmont looking like he still has gas in the tank. I'll bet there's a bunch of folks whose feet haven't touched the ground yet!
