Regarding the Horses in our lives...

Ponies!

I just wanted to share this photo of my daughter when she was 5 with her pony when he was 28. She's 10 now and he sadly passed away a few years ago but there was so much love.

I love it! One of my absolute favorite colors, too - Silver!

He was actually a chocolaty dapple color but would shed out every spring a slightly different shade and his winter coat was always lighter. He was the sweetest little guy. I have tons of photos of them similar to this and one of my favorites was him laying down with her sitting beside him petting his face. He adored her.

Are Shetlands also shown in fine harness? Just curious. -Kathy
I dont know fine harness tends to want horses with lots of shoulder movement and action. Shetlands are actually small draft horses.... I have seen a team of Shetlands at horse pull competition. Two shetlands pulled a sled with 2500 pounds on it pound for pound they are the strongest horses in the world. Pretty cool huh... deb

As far as I know. roadster classes are done with the drivers wearing silks rather like jockeys, and driving carts that are similar to sulkies.

Deb, i'm afraid your info on Shetlands is pretty outdated. Would you believe that this is a Shetland Pony?

It's what they call a "Modern Shetland;" there is a "Classic Shetland" that isn't quite that refined. As you might imagine, the Moderns can have pretty impressive action:

I saw those under the shetland listing for fine harness but I thought they were small Welsh.... Gawd I am behind the times...

Doesnt look like thimble harness either... I need to look at harness again.

Ok now I am looking at harness on Craigslist.

Here is one pony sized for 11 to 12.2 hands Comes with lines and a 4.5 inch bit.

275.00 a decent price for a leather harness if its in good shape....

Its at a used tack store and I know the owner somewhat... as far as I can see from the picture all it needs is a good cleaning and possibly a retouch on dye.
