I think she is a girl, BUt yep wrong comb type. she has a single comb and she is supposed to have a walnut comb.
And the feet feathers should be fuller for show.
But i LOVE the color. Beautiful.
The bird is also too young--to be old enough, it should appear to be completely mature, but perhaps smaller than an older bird. The one you posted still looks like a youngster.
If we were to relate pullets to people, a pullet would look like a 17 or 18 year old young lady, but the one you posted looks like a 12 year old little girl.
A walnut comb looks rather like a walnut; oval with a horizontal crease at about the center. It should be wider than tall. On females the comb is often nearly flat, but not always. The crease is not always present. Also, the comb is sometimes covered with small bumps.
Our fair allows 4h'ers to bring a hen, a roo, a pullet and a cockeral. They define pullet and cockeral as any bird under 1 year. Its just a small country fair. I think it will be a good 1st show experience for 8yr old dd.
And I have another splash in the coop that might meet that definition of walnut comb
Well a couple of folks have posted photos of roosters with the correct combs. This thread has a photo of a correctly combed pullet, and a close-up at that
