Last spring, when I went to our local feed store to pick up feed, I (of course) had to check out the little chicks and I noticed that the feed store employees were making everyone who bought chicks register their home address, phone #,ect and then they had to sign the sheet of paper.

Is this normal?

I bought my chicks on MPC 2 years ago and I was thinking of getting a few more this spring from the feed store, but I don't want to register them.

Never heard of this happening? hmmm

sounds like NAIS. Check your state government and what their position is on it. Here in AZ our Governor voted not to require the info. There have been some other threads on this topic but some have been locked as it can become a touchy subject.

That's very strange.

We can't get chicks AT our co-ops, we have to order through them from a choice of like two hatcheries. BUT I've never had to do that sort of thing, and it sounds rather sketchy to me. Either find a different feed store, or buy from MPC again.

I think I will order from MPC - they have a better selection.
It's the only feed store with chicks within 40 miles.

AND you have to buy a minimum of 6 chicks.

Lammeeee. Our closest hatchery has a minimum order of 6 chicks otherwise add $2 to your order. Not too bad IMO. We're ordering 6 chicks and 3 ducklings. Woot.

they do that here..I asked why and cant remember the reason..I will have to ask next time I am in there
