Registering your chicks at the feed store? Normal?

When I purchased my chickies at our local feed store they asked for your information for the reason that if they are notified that there was anything wrong with other birds of that hatch or if the hatchery notifies them for any reason they would know how to get ahold of you. I'm sure it is not as simple as that, but that was what I was told.

Ohio has a minimum purchase of 6 chicks also, to discourage people from buying just one 'easter chick' as a cute present then either disposing of it or neglecting it after the charm wears off of it.

There's also a law against dying or coloring any rabbit or chick or duckling... I'm not positive how I feel about that 'registration'. I think we should all ask why whenever we run into it and post the answers here... maybe a comparison of answers would be interesting.

I have not had to do this. However, when you order from MPC or any of the hatcheries, they have all your information (name, addy, phone, etc...) anyway, so this is really not any different. You might wanna ask, maybe it's as simple as starting a mailing list for coupons

or maybe they want to start a chicken club....
