Regular Chicken Maintenance???

I do give my chickens ACV and vitamins. I also gave them probiotics the first couple months or so. My girls look great and are super healthy. I won't give antibiotics unless absolutely necessary. I give them supplements, but I take natural supplements myself. It's all a personal preference.

I have never medicated mine but I have only had them for 6 months. Can any of you nice folks tell me what I should have in a "first aid" kit for those times you may need something and the feed store is closed?

My drawer (including some items in fridge) has basic first aid supplies + syringes, scalpels, vet wrap, blu-kote, several antibiotics (Tylan, penicillin, sulmet, denagard), corid for cocci, antibiotic eye ointment, blood stop powder, SWAT ointment, vitamins, Sevin (outside LOL), electrolyte powder.. hmm. Oh, I also have wazine and Eprinex. I'm a regular pharmacy and I never use any of it!

I also have a 'cat meds' drawer.

There's probably other stuff I have forgotten.

Bare minimum I'd probably say Tylan, Corid, blood stop, no-iron polyvisol, blu-kote and vet wrap. I've only used the tylan once, so you could leave that out if you don't want to use antibiotics.

X2 Three generations of never giving chemicals to our happy and healthy flocks. If your breeder has, though, she might have been breeding genetics that require that level of care to continue to live and thrive. I'd just watch your flock carefully and give excellent preventative care...should be just fine. If you seem to have a lot of illness and poor performance I'd think twice about getting birds from her again.

I think you are confusing Management and Medications.

Management would include:
Wormers (though some don't worm; as it has been stated many would if necessary)
Sulmet
Blue Lotion
Bleach
Vitamins
Probiotics
etc.

Medication:
Tylan
Oxytetracycline
Baytril
etc.

There is a vast difference between these two categories.

I can't tell you what you should have but I'll tell you what I have in my chichen medicine cabinet. A Coccidiostat, I prefer Corid. Something for external parasites, Ivermectin &/or Seven Powder. An axe used to treat all conditions not covered ny the Coccidiostat & parasite treatment.
