I was unable to find this specific question adressed previously. My Izzy has been treated with amoxicillin for 10 days today. She had been breathing with a quiet crackly sound (rales) and some occasional sneezing one day and I finally found an em vet/clinic because I was suspicious it was upper respiratory "something". (My regular vet will not treat Avian/Chickens). Result was the antibiotic for 10 days. Em clinic will not respond to calls/emails/etc. so my question is when can I reintroduce her back into the brooder with her previous "siblings". They are almost 4 weeks old. She appears completely recovered. Everything appears normal. The other 5 babies have not developed anything abnormal thus far. Fingers crossed.
Thank you so much. I feel like like a "hellicopter" Mother Hen!

I tried to look some more searching up and found a thread under quarantining for a sick chicken and it said 30 days at a minimum. So I will try this and keep watching her for 2 to 3 more weeks. She's in my bedroom in her own little brooder. She's lonely I think so I spend time with her every morning and every evening on my bed! (I put old sheets on it. She's decided she should peck at all of my freckles and moles! So we had to have a " come to Jesus discussion" about this.) I wrapped her in a small towel and cuddled her for about 10 minutes. She settled down for a little bit but I assume she isbored. Hubby is finishing up the coop and run preparations. I can't wait until we can go out for little "field trips"! :) I'm nervous about outside "germs". Any advice about this? Thank you.

I'm so sorry nobody answered and I'm new to this, to, so I also don't have answers. I just wanted to say that I had a constipated chick that I had to take to a vet yesterday and she said to put one of the other chicks (whoever looked least like Cordelia, so I would know who to medicate) in with her so she wouldn't be alone. Now, in your case, maybe you can't because your kiddo might be contagious. I am worried about reintroducing the chicks back when our ten days is up. I don't want anyone getting picked on.

Thank you for answering! I appreciate it. I've been busy here there and everywhere, however I have reintroduced Izzy back w her pals. Here is how I did it: (I am trying to upload videos today to youtube and see if I can get those on this site. Facebook didn't work when I tride before.) I brought in 1 and 2 chicks at a time in (they were 6 weeks old a week ago) with her in our room and watched them to see how they would interact. The funniest thing was Izzy thought she was the boss of the room now apparently and curiously pecked at them instead of the other way around. Especially if they came near me. I was surprised! I'm guessing because it was "her" space for over a month already and she claimed me as her only companion. So I think this helped alleviate the others ganging up on her due to an established pecking order. Also they're still young. This week we are all 7 weeks old and have been take daily field trips out to the run and coop. Next week we all try overnight in the coop because we'll all be 8 weeks old! I'm watching them very carefully for signs of anything new. So far so good. I'm considering putting back on medicated feed for a couple weeks to prevent coccidosis as this is their first foraging (in the run) experience diet wise. At the same time they're poos are going to be altered anyway because of added outdoor diet. So I have to think about it in terms of being able to discern what is happening with them.

I got lucky with reintroductions in that we bought an outdoor pop-up canopy and have been using it for day trips for the babies. They're always excited and nervous when they first go out, so I put my two from the hospital wing in and out everyone else out and everybody immediately flocked together for safety, so there was no bullying anyone that I saw. You're lucky that your kid still loves you- my two that were separated will still totally accept food from me, but don't want to hang out and get loved on any more. I have one that's such a love baby that she makes up for it, though. 😁 I'm glad things are going well! We're trying to get the coop finished.

Here is Ruby my Jersey Giant and Izzy my Isa Brown. Izzy was the separated one. She's been fitting right in. Still comes to hop up on me and sit a spell. Ruby did also. They're a hootenanny!
