My silkies 2nd batch of eggs are hatching. Yesterday right after one hatched, the hens formed a circle around it and just sort of watched. I didn't think too much of that, so when I went outside a couple hours later, this same chick was laying in the hay curled up, eyes closed and very cold. All the hens had actually moved over from where they were and seemed to be deliberately ignoring the chick! I picked him up and realized he ( or she lol) was still alive so I brought him in and under a light. Well, about 10 minutes later he came to life and is doing wonderful! So today I tried to put him back in the hens house and they started to peck him terrible! So of course it was back in the house. I have never seen them do this before and am at a loss. I realize that the hens probably known better than I do..maybe? and there was a reason they did this. But anyway, what do I do now? Let me add that the few other chicks that are with the hens are just fine.

There is not necessarily anything wrong with the chick. If a hen is not broody, she will often kill chicks. Hens don't just normally take to chicks at any time. Hopefully you'll have more chicks hatch and you can bring at least one of them in to be a buddy with this baby.
