Rejected Single Chick

I'm a bit late to the party but I had something similar happen. The mother accepted the chick at first then one day just started to be mean to it. I thought she was just being a strict mom because he's a bit mischievous, but as I watched her she continued to be really abusive towards him until I had to separate him from her to protect him. He seemed so sad the next day and I didn't want him to be lonely so I sneakily snatched 3 more chicks from her flock to keep him company. I ended up being a chicken mom to 8 in total and they're still together and thriving to this day. He's a little alpha leading them around the yard lol. So cute.
