One of our cats recently chased a baby rabbit out of the farmer's field next to us. She hadn't bit it, just played with it apparently as it was twisted and crawling.

We rescued it, fed it fresh alfalfa (the field it was in), grass, carrots, and Chinchilla food. It ate like a little piggy and drank water out of a peanut butter lid.

It's been two weeks now, and it seems perfect. We've never handled it other than putting it in a pet carrier. It has doubled in size.

We want to release it in the forest behind us, down by the creek. We plan to leave a pile of Chinchilla food and carrots. We'll keep the cats in the house when we go down there with him.

Does anyone know any other tips or tricks about this? We fear he'll be eaten by predators down there, but the farmer's field he came from has since been mowed.

Thank you for saving him! I would release him where you see other rabbits 💞
Thanks! But, that would be our garden. :D No way!

We put him down by the creek in the carrier, opened the door. We piled a few carrots and Chinchilla feed outside of it.

Even though the creek is right there, hubby put water dishes there for it.

We went back half an hour later and he was gone.

For the future note that carrots aren't particularly healthy for rabbits due to the sugar content
He's wild, and they all get more sugar than that from our garden. We can't fence the raspberries and they're eating tons of those which have way more sugar than a few carrots, but thank you. If I ever raise a pet rabbit, I'll keep the sweets down.
