Hey peoples, this is my second question ever on this site so far!

Anyway I'm looking for places that are still hatching chicks that I can order from, that will also ship in smaller #'s (I live in an urban area and there are no people I can split an order with). I found www.mypetchicken.com and I think they are based in Connecticut. I live in California and I wanted advice from the oh-so-knowledgeable peeps here in the forum first if you guys think that chicks will last the long trip from one coast to the other. Also, has anyone here ordered chicks from this website before? If so would you recomend a newbie ordering from them?

You have a hatchery in Cal...

http://www.belthatchery.com/ as close as you are they
might work with you on a small order since the temps are
up.

MPC is a "middle man" on the chicks. They order from the
same places we all do. If I am not mistaken the just repackage
them in smaller lots.

Hey Raven,

Where in So Cal are you?
I live in Los Angeles.
I ordered 9 chicks from Meyer last year and they arrived safe and sound.
There are also some local feed store where you can go pick up chicks.
There's a feed store in Reseda where I'm going tomorrow to get a couple babies!

Hey Shrader,

I'm in the Covina area, which I have been finding has a lot more opportunities for poultry supplies than I thought, but the one closest to me doesn't have chicks. I know that Belt is probably a good shot, but I only want 6 chicks (3 RIRs and 3 White Rocks) and they will only ship in lots of 25+. Most of the neighborhoods in my area are not zoned for chickens so there just aren't many people I can share with and my school doesn't have a poultry program anymore (I'm an Agriculture Science major at Cal Poly) so I wouldn't know what to do with the rest of the chicks.

Thanks for the idea Homegroanacres, I will contact Belt and see if they will make an exception!

OMG! I live in the Brentwood/Palisades area of LA and want some chickens.
Where in LA are you? I would love to see someone elses setup.

Cal Poultry doesn't have a poultry program anymore. They must have gotten rid of it because they were tired of their nickname.

Someone in the forums (CarriBrown) is from Norco. That isn't far from you and they might have some info for you.

Thanks dacjohns, I will try to contact CarriBrown and see if there is any advice I can get for local sources.

I'm from just above Pasadena.
If you are willing to drive to El Monte there are a few. Wes' Pets has chicks usually...but call first to see if he has what you want. Otherwise there are a few other places...PM me I can give you a list of where I have gone.
