I moved from Florida to Pennsylvania could I put my hens in the garage with a heater or should I wait til spring to acremate them to the weather? I have them in my basement now.

How old are your chickens and how long have they been in PA? What is the coop and run setup? Breed can also come into play. 99% of the time they could of gone straight to the coop but fill us in

We got here 12/13. Four box coop with run underneath - dirt on garage floor and straw in boxes. I have a heater too. The hens are multiple. A red star sarama-?, a mystic onyx, and a Plymouth rock- idk she's the ones they used during the civil war. The oldest is three, and youngest is give months.

Square footage of the coop, ventilation, roost space, height of ceiling is important to get them out. They are old enough to be outside. The only one I would be concerned about would be the Serama x only based on size.
I would put them in the garage with no heat. Provide plenty of feed as digestion keeps them warm. I'm a fan of fermented feed in the winter to know they are getting water.

The garage will probably stay close to freezing at night based on construction. Perfect test for them and you.
This is my batch of pullets from March. They are 8 weeks during their first snow. There is warmth in numbers but they did just fine in single digits.

Thank you so much. I was so worried. I'll do the heater for pepper- my serrama.
