Remember Candy from Your Childhood

I had a lot of favorites...those wax bottles and giant jawbreakers, especially..we used to go to the store down the street and buy 25 pieces of candy for pretty close to .25 cents; they would put the candy in a little brown paper bag and we would take it up on the fire escape of our old elementary school and sit up there and eat candy all afternoon...gross, when I think about it now, but a very fond childhood memory.

When I was a young girl, we used to get these corn on the cob suckers that had either a dime, nickel or a quarter in the middle. These suckers were yellow, orange, red or green. We would go through the whole box holding those suckers up in the light to try to get a quarter. Dang, those were dangerous days back then.

My daddy used to give me a dollar and I would go to the store, which we live 2 houses down from and get penny candies and we would sit around the living room watching The Carol Burnett Show passing that little bitty sack around full of those penny candies. They usually were the banana laffy taffy, tootsie rolls, sixlets, chick o sticks and I think that is just about it. We would fight for the banana laffy taffy.

Oh and Bubbs daddy bubble gum (remember it was like a foot long?) Me and my sister would have contests to see who could get the whole thing in their mouth first!!!

Those were the days!!!!! lol

Someone mentioned Zero candy bars....I just had to throw this in. My Mom talks about walking to the store when she was a little girl and buying a Zero candy bar for a nickel.....she is 63.

CHICKNMANIA,
You didn't happen to go to 5th avenue elementary school, did you. It's sounds like the store on the corner ,across from the school I attended....That would be so funny.
