Remove eggs from carton for easier hatch?

My eggs go into "lock down" tonight, one last candle to see and then shut it up tight! I had them in an egg carton and made a turner in the cooler "bator", I removed the turner so they will not fall and make it easier to hatch. My question is: should I take them out of the carton and lay them on the mesh wire to make their hatch easier yet? Sooooo excited about to bust! First time with entire experience. Out of the 18 eggs I put in the bator, 16 "look" good for hatching!

yes, I would. It helps to prevent leg/foot injuries while climbing over obstacles and believe me, they are little climbers even in the incubator.

I do all of my hatches in cartons, with the sides cut down. Ive found out it gives me better hatch rates, and the eggs cant be kicked around by already hatched chicks.

That is exactly what happened to one of my eggs yesterday, a chick hatched and rolled another egg over. When I noticed it, it was too late, the chick had tried to hatch but the hole was in the bottom side of the egg and the chick didn't make it!

Next time I am going to try the cartom method.

That is exactly why my hatching friend leaves his in the cartons too. He says that it helps the chicks know "which way is up" and he has less that die during the experience. Terri O

I leave my eggs in the carton. I have two days yet till hatch day. I am eggtra eggcited, since these are eggs that I bought from the auction here. I dont candle, so I wait the full 21 days, to see my surprise. I also have a two broodies sitting on 10 eggs together. I am goting to pull the chicks for the first week, just to make sure they get to water. It is soooo hot here. Any suggestions to keeping the peeps alive through the first week?

I hatch mine in the carton ( I cut it down a bit) and put that plastic/foam shelf liner with the holes in it over the wire. It's worked great for me 92-98% hatch rates (my eggs, not shipped) and no spraddle leg. Happy hatching!!

I waited too late to ask the question, so therefore did not get ya'lls reponces until the next morn

I have already taken them out and layed them in the bottom. Today is day 20 and I have 2 that have pips, and 3 others are rocking every once in awhile. I even heard a peep

I marked them on the tops so if another chick kicks it I can "fix" it. The children and I are about to bust waiting. I don't think I will get much sleep tonight!
