Removing turner to hatch, with just one incubator

Those of you who remove your eggs from the turner on day 18, and only use ONE incubator...how do you do it? I will most likely just keep the turner in there and let them hatch in it, and simply turn it off on day 18. But if I wanted to take out the turner, how would I do it without losing too much heat/humidity?

I'm really hoping someone will have ideas, because I have the thing loaded UP! This is my first hatch in the new Genesis. I have LG incubators that COULD be used for hatching, but my hatching problems seem to mostly be occurring in the final days, so I really don't want to mess them up at the end.

I would recommend taking the turner out and placing the eggs (big end up) in a cardboard egg carton with holes in the bottom (helps humidity), and putting them back in the incubator as quickly as possible. The problem with leaving them in the turner is that there are to many places that the hatched chicks can get hung up on.

Well, in my ghetto set up, I just take them out of the turner, set them on the floor (since the bator is on the floor anyway), take the turner out, and lay them back in the bator. If you plan on using an egg carton, you could set them in the carton as you take them out of the turner, then just pop the whole thing back in the bator.

You can take the trays out of the Hovabator turner. I would take out all the ones I'm not using and put whatever eggs are left in the very last trays...and then make some kind of a barrier to protect the hatchlings. How far apart are they staggered?

I don't have the Hovabator turner, but one of the LG ones.

Based on what Shelley and the rest of you've suggested, how about this:

Unplug turner.
Engage assistant to quickly lift lid of incubator.
Remove turner, with eggs, from incubator.
Assistant slaps lid back on incubator.
Transfer eggs from turner to cardboard cartons with holes in bottom.
Add water to incubator.
Slip eggs, in cartons, quickly back into incubator while assistant handles the lid again.

Does that work?

That would definitely work! I misunderstood...I thought your hatch was staggered and you needed to keep some in the turner!

My bator is upstairs and my hatcher down. I hvae one of my children lift the lid, I take all the eggs that are due to hatch out and put them in a carton, carefully bring them downstairs. Another child lifts the lid on the hatcher and I carefully take them one by one and lay them on their sides in the hatcher (I don't use the carton method though) Works wonderfully!
