I have 3 light Sussex 2 hens and a cockerel. They are 6 months and everytime she lays an egg she sits on it for about an hour and I wondered if she's broody she hisses at me when I look in the coop, she does get off the egg for a feed and ect. If she is broody Would she sit on a fake egg.? Because I don't want loads of chicks. And how many eggs do they lay before they sit fall time many thanks

I have two girls that do the exact same thing. After laying their egg they like to hang out in the nest box a 'play' broody. One has sat for over 3 hours. Don't worry. It's normal. And it's not enough to get the eggs to start developing. Come springtime, she might make a good broody hen. Right now, she's a bit young for going full blown broody.

Have several that sit for awhile after laying...have also seen them just lounging in the nests from time to time, before and after laying not always same nest.
