Replacing my flock

Ok.... newbie here but what is cull? Also, after 2 years I'm thinking I would be pretty attatched to most of them... how do you all do it? I mean how do you have them for so long and then, I'm guessing eat them? Tips, tips, tips plz!!! Any sort of advise on not getting to attatched?

Cull is to remove/discard them and it can really have whatever meaning the owner chooses. I'm with you, my animals are in my heart and i could not discard them for that reason. But many people do and its nothing new. I think they are not going to make the person enough money to keep them, but someone will get enough eggs from them to have breakfast and enjoy them as pets if they are not dinner. We all handle that stuff differently

Half of our flock is over two. Of that half, which is about 7 hens, only three lay very regular. Their replacements are in the livingroom now. I deal with culling by having them all look the same as possible, with only a few different, and yes it is the ones that are different that we tend to be more attached too.
