I'm not sure if this is bothering anyone else or if it's just me. It seems that a few members like to cruise Craigslist and then repost the ads here by creating a post with the Craigslist link in it. I see this mostly in the coop construction section.

Well I've done it and it has resulted in people getting a good coop at a great price or free. I think if our right to post links to used coops is taken away, then the right to post links to new coops would have to be forbidden as well. The coop design section, as I understand it, is a place to share ideas and information with each other. People go from not knowing where to start to having a great coop because of information provided by members in the Coop design forum. This a a great community of chicken-loving people and one member can't expect all posts to be relevant or of interest to him or her. I know they aren't all of interest to me! Could just skip those posts if you aren't interested or it isn't in your locale?

Just an idea.

Mary

Sharing those links really helps some build nice coops at a good price. I see nothing wrong with helping each other out. Someone in CA new I needed some chicken wire here by El Paso and found a Craigslist Ad in the El Paso section and saved me probably over a 100 bucks by posting that!

I'm just wondering what is bothersome about it...

I agree if anything it is helpful...unless you're in competition for the same market or something. I like that we share so much useful information.

LOVE BYC'ers that post this kind of thing myself!!

I don't understand why it bothers you, can you clarify, please? To me, it's just like calling a friend to say "Hey, here's the thing you were looking for!".

I am not sure why it bugs you...we have been able to get BYC members TONS of stuff for free. On Friday I put up a link where someone CL posted 400 pounds of frozen carrots for free, and we have done quite a few chicken rescues that way. Sometimes they are just funny. Like "Selling Ananconda Chickens"

Is it because once the ad is deleted, the link no longer works?

In the Arizona section we share craigslist ads on a daily basis. It is very helpful because someone might not have seen the "great deal". I don't think I would go into other sections and post an Arizona thing because what would a person in Virginia care about an Arizona deal? I would help a friend out by looking for something in their area though.

I do it alot and hope that it helps others out.. It isnt to help the seller but the buyers.. I have forwarded many free chicken or free coop posts and had a bycer get them .. Thats the only reason I do it , to help other bycers..

No kidding CoopCrazy! CluckinCrazy jumped the Aloha Chicken project up 2 generations by sending us a CL ad she found! Alohachickens ended up giving her a BEAUTIFUL pullet as a thank you.
