reproducing

I was given some chickens and one was a production red rooster and a hen. They were hatched about Easter he said so still too young I think.

my question is. Should I let them reproduce when they are able, worried the chicks wont be big enough before winter? Or just wait till next year and keep them seperate?

Just because they are mating it takes more than that to get chicks. First your hen has to go broody and not all hens do. If you collect your eggs regularly you won't have to worry about wintertime chicks.
