Adding Pullets to the Flock

aart above ^ was spot on with this. introducing the chick in her own small space by the wall of the other coup works well. Weve done this successfully and weve tried other failed methods to introduce chicks. This is very similar to introducing sugar gliders by swapping their pouches to get used to each others scent over a 2 week period which works 80% of the time.

My run is fully enclosed in 1/2" hardware cloth. In the center, I have a post dug into the ground and attached to the main "ceiling" bar. From there, I hung a shower curtain from the center to one side. I can partition off 1/4 to 1/2 of the entire run, by running plain plastic fencing from the post to either side of the run. If I put a roost, waterer, and feeder in there, I have another temporary coop, especially if I put clear tarps around the outside (the roof is always covered). A portable nestbox makes it acceptable for any age bird.

I have used this setup for look-don't-touch integration, and for my bully, who's been living in there problem free through some very cold weather.

If I have the whole run open, the shower curtain provides shelter from wind. A feeder and waterer are on either side of it, so chickens can't see the others.
