ReptiPro 5000 & 6000 Hatch-a-long Thread

So these can be built to suit to an extent? I am wondering (it sounds like you may know the company) would it be possible for them to drill and extra hole at an additional charge so I could use the turners and also put in an air pump?? I might just have to ask them!! And sounds like you are quite happy with your unit and have had success so I may just ping you when we first set it up if that would be ok? I am leaning towards ordering one and trying it out at home for a while to see what we can do!!!
I think we definately need the turners and I would like to be able to hatch out 20-30 at a time once my son gets his system down, so I would like to be able to use the full capacity if possible! And because he goes to school during the day and I work (sometimes odd emergency hours) turners and air pumps would be ideal so we could hatch on our hens schedule and not our work schedule!
Sounds like maybe I could put in a call to the company and try my luck

Your best bet would be to give Chris at Reptipro a call. He's a member of this forum but i havent seen him around lately.

Trying it out at home would be a good idea so you can get a feel for it.. just remember to throw away your hygrometer (well.. ignore it anyway).. and to go by air cells (or egg weight) to monitor your humidity.. plus invest in a good thermometer
I tend to stack eggs.. so i have been known to shove 60 or so in there at a time (a whole lot more if I am hatching out quail).. lol

OK, I finally got around to using my Reptipro 6000 for an actual hatch. It's coming out exactly on time and the chicks are healthy.

During my trial period I noticed a lot of condensation fogging the door. Discovered that was caused by putting too much water in the tray. I live in Arizona where single digit humidity is normal, and incorrectly figured the Reptipro would need a bunch of water to maintain humidity levels. Not so. If you are in areas with normally high humidity you might not need to add any water to this unit.

This thing works GREAT with a tiny amount of water. Even in extremely dry climates. It maintained proper humidity levels with only a few drops of water in just one of the little water slots. (There are at least 10 slots in the water tray.) It only took a few drops of water once a day. Easy.

I do wish it came with a humidity readout. I had to put a thermometer/hygrometer unit inside to measure the humidity, which took up several egg slots. Now that I know it maintains proper humidity levels with just a few drops of water every day I may not need the hygrometer for future hatches.

The turners worked really well, and are easy to remove when hatching time comes. I did improvise a basket for the hatching tray to keep the chicks from tumbling out when I open the door.

All in all, I recommend this unit!

I am getting ready to by the ReptiPro 5000 from someone for $125 , first question is that a good deal or am I getting gipped ? Next , I have never hatched eggs before but my hen just will not lay on them ! The man told me all I have to do is set the thing and leave it alone . All the ones I was looking at TSC had egg turners you could get with them , do I need an egg turner ? Do they have to be turned ? I have no clue what I am doing , someone please help !!!

The 6000 model is better and doesn't cost much more than what he is charging you. If it were me I'd get the new one .
You can turn eggs manually, and if you are hatching chickens read up on some of the good folks ideas about how they let in oxygen and so forth. You will need to interact with it if you don't get a turner.

You can get a small battery operated thermometer that also reads humidity levels at most big box stores. That's what I used in my Reptipro. Worked fine. Cost maybe $15. Found mine near the garden section at Lowes.

For anyone looking for a Reptipro I have a 6000 with two egg turners and a 5000 that I use for a hatcher for sale. I have had lots of great success with them. they are in good shape and I am asking 250.00 for the pair.
