Reptipro 5000 Hatch-A-Long (=

Ok, it has been almost 2 hours...
Top - 101
Middle - 101
Bottom (no eggs) - 97*
I have it set at 99*, should I bump it down?

if the digital reading is right it should be less than 99 at shelf level...

assuming the thermometers are right and the digital display is off... I would drop the digital temp down one degree.. then check it again in an hour or two.. if it's still reading high I would drop the digital down one more degree...

I mis typed... Middle shelf is at 99*. Does it make a difference that my thermometer is on top of my eggs not laying on the shelf?

yup.. you need the temp at mid egg level...
so if the top of the lower eggs is sitting at 99 I think I would leave everything alone.... just remember that the eggs on the top shelf will probably hatch a day or so sooner than the lower ones unless you swap shelves every day in order to get everyone at the same average temp

for the ones I use the little sensor is at the top of the thermometer.. so I can sit them on the shelf and the sensor is at the right height

I think every morning I will switch the trays when I do the first turn of the day. Thank you for your help! I need to come up with a better way to turn. I don't really like the cardboard, but $70 a piece for the 4x4 auto turners seems way too high.

Ok, dumb question..do you put a therm/hydgro...on each shelf..including the very bottom of the bator?

I only put them where I plan to incubate eggs...

You don't need one on the bottom unless you are putting eggs down there. Most people don't unless they have Emu, that's a whole other thread, Lol.

for emus I raised the bottom up a bit (cut off foam egg cartons raised up the shelf a bit off the bottom)...
so they weren't directly on the bottom.. but I know others have put them there (I believe msheets did for her emu eggs)

So today is day 21 and last night I started hearing the beloved "peeping" coming from my bator. Then around the middle of the day it tapered off and now it's pretty much quiet. My humidity was sitting at 60% and I couldn't get it to go up with adding a small container of water. I have a couple containers in there to regulate humidity.

So anyway, I put a wet (warm) rag in and the humidity went up to 70-75.

I wrung some of it out just now and its settling right around 70ish.

Do I worry?

Well...of course I worry.

I didn't check the air cells before lock down....such the rookie!!

Is there hope? Do they sometimes take a long break to recharge their batteries? The entire incubation was spot on with 99.5 and about 40% humidity.

have you opened the bator to give them fresh air?

If it were me I would pull a few and tap on them.. then hold them to your ear to see if you still hear peeping.. also check for any pips and maybe candle a few to see what's going on inside
