I have to add something here. That had to be one of the easiest clean up jobs on a bator that I've ever done. Very easy!

Congrats!! I know ain't it great !! You just wipe it down and scrub the tray and shelves with dish soap. Ready to go again

I have a pip on one of the "Mystery

ducks" so I guessed pretty close. Put them in lockdown 3 days ago, based on candling and the filled area.

yeah.. cleanup is insanely easy... I blow out the fan with a can of air then after everything has been wiped down give it all a good spritz of Oxine

I have duck eggs internally pipped.. several have externally pipped as of last night and this morning.. now just waiting on them to finish hatching!

Something I do with my incubator is put a sheet of paper towel on the very bottom. That way when they are done hatching all the stuff falls on the paper towel and it makes
IIfe a little easier. Get it and throw it away.

yinepu, Where do you get the Oxine? Never thought about blowing out the fan, good idea.

I have gamebird starter, that what I need for the baby ducks, right? At work (Zoo) they feed it as a mash. Is that better than dry?

for ducklings you really need something lower in protein.. (to prevent angelwing) but has a decent amount of niacin (to prevent leg issues)
I feed Dumor chick starter to ducklings.. so far I haven't had any problems with anglewing or leg issues
Our local feed store chick starter is just too low in niacin for ducklings and goslings

as a fix... if your chick starter is too low in niacin you can add Brewers Yeast to the feed or niacin to their water

Heck, that Oxine looks like it would be great to put in our storage water! Looks like good stuff to have around for a number of things.

Thanks I need to get some of that stuff, just in case I have to was anymore gooey shipped eggs.

I am pretty sure the Tractor Supply carries the Dumor, I'll go by there. I have some more eggs that I took out of the trash

(don't tell anybody). I had to wash them but they all look like they are developing well. I think some of the little ones may be Blackbellied whistlers. Any idea how long they cook? I have a vatierty now, Not sure what I'll do with ducks, any ideas? I think it may not be smart to post them on CL since I work at the Zoo and took them out of the trash. I don't thing it's anything wrong, but --well you know, they may start cracking the eggs they throw away, or something. I'm really just hatching them for fun. Some are wild so I guess I'll just let them run and see what they do. The mixes I can sell, or eat.

Tractor supply does carry Dumor..

for incubation.. most ducks take 28 days.. muscovys (which are not true ducks) take about 35 days

so if in doubt.. allow 25 to 30 days.. being sure to candle the eggs to see how far along the embryo is

internal pipping was on Sunday night to Monday morning
first external pips were Monday night




the egg in the back (standing on end) is a duckling whose air cell was at the small end of the egg.. he's internally pipped so I made a large hole to keep an eye on his progress since he may end up needing help

I just had to do that with my Silkie hatch. Did I just say somewhere on here that I haven't had problems with hatching Silkies? Well this time I did. I didn't have them in the Rep..I had them in the same bator I've always used for them.
Well, so many of them were pipping on the wrong end of the shell. They would sit there way too long for my comfort, so I pipped them more, and had to help them out slowly through the day. They are fine. Man, the one's that did that, had really high vaulted heads..no wonder they pipped there, they weren't able to turn, and just had to pip for some air! They were tight in there, and ready to come out, but I took time, and got them out sooner than I have other babies in the past, because they were so ready.
Those high vaults do cause a problem. The ones that hatched on their own, had no vaults. I had some eggs from this same breeder before, they popped out like popcorn popping. They pipped and zipped so fast. But not this time. Oh well, I saved the little cuties.
I have some more showgirl eggs I want to put in my new bator. I have not had luck with them, and I want to make sure I get a girl. Hoping they do alright. Should come tomorrow. In the turners they go, and hopefully they can turn when the time comes, because they also have high vaults most of the time.
