We have a 4x5 3-sided shed that I want to make in to a coop for 4 hens. It will open onto a 16x4 run. I want to put 2 outside nest boxes on one side, and have the front part open up for cleaning. The shed is only about 3.5 feet high inside. How would you lay it out? I want a plexiglass window on the side opposite from the nest boxes, but I don't know where to put the roost.

The back will open onto the chicken run

We live in Michigan so we have hot hot humid summers and cold cold windy winters with lots of snow. I'm putting the window on the north side so no direct summer sunlight, and the coop itself on the east of the large shed to keep out from the direct west wind and sunlight.

Would love to hear ideas and I will post pics when we start building!

Be sure there is a big enough hole for winter ventilation, preferably at the high point of the coop. I'd suggest the window open to let breeze in during hot weather, or they will get too hot in there. 4 hens only need one nest box. If you made two, they would very likely only use one. Be sure the roost is higher than the nest.
