Reputable Hatchery

I am new to having layers but have raised meat birds for a few years. I purchased our current chicks through our local feed store but I would like to get different breeds of layers next year as well as my meat birds. Does anybody have recommendations for good hatcheries for layers and meat birds?

I know Ideal does really efficient layers (They're very proud of 236.). I've never tried their meaties. Be aware that they like to save heat costs by adding a bunch of males to orders they think are small.

I had bought my chicks last year from cackle hatchery. They are a little far from where I live, but they had arrived at the post office within 24 hours. 18 chicks arrived, but one died a few days later for unknown reasons. The other 17 were healthy and are now grown and laying breakfast. They also included a heating pack (I ordered in February), some sort of grow gel, and 2 extra FEMALE chicks. Not sure about the meat birds though, since I haven't ordered them.

I use cackle or mcmurry with awsome quality and price! I recently used myer hatchery with HORRIFYING issues. I ordered 30 chicks they were later than expected and a loss of 6 right off then another 12 less than 24 hours later. They have shipped my replacements only to run into shipping issues ( again) my chicks are set to arrive to me tomorrow in Oregon( I live in TX) due to the sender redirecting my babies. Pretty sure im gonna wind up with another box of dead or dying babies if they make it. If i could give them a negative rating i would

Definitely Cackle hatchery Color Yield meat birds! I've tried all breeds of meat birds from quite a few hatcheries over the years and last year's Color Yield from Cackle were excellent, the best meat birds we have had. You have to order them early as they sell out fast. Ours were raised in one big pen and cover along with two other types. Color Yield was outstanding as far as fast growth, feed conversion rate, and friendly and active. The meat is outstanding also!

I have order lots of layer breeds from Cackle and they always arrive healthy, and active. I have been very happy with almost every bird we have received from Cackle. Great Hatchery!

I've also read some horrible reviews about Meyer Hatchery so I have avoided them.

i’ve considered ordering from cackle as they have some breeds that i haven’t found other places but in my situation distance from the hatchery is not that far considering....and i’m even closer to meyer.....have you ever considered that as a reason for problems (bad reviews)??? i wouldn’t order (knowingly) from a hatchery in california or oregon as i know it would be too stressful a trip for chicks

I ordered from Murray Mcmurray this year and all were healthy chicks and arrived in two days. So it is a little further than Cackle in Missouri, I have never had issues with either one.
