I sincerely hope I’m not writing an obituary. My husband texted me that our silkie bantam hen didn’t show up for treats this morning and hasn’t come back to roost tonight.
We didn’t mean to get a silkie in the first place when we picked out our first dozen chickens, but being as new to chickens as the people in the store, we ended up with a fuzzy chick that didn’t grow very fast, and had an extra toe. And when it was accidentally injured and lost a toenail, it got taken to the vet for a checkup, some ointment, and lots of attention from “normal” pet owners. And a few bills. So our $2 farm store peep turned into our $200 favorite hen. We hatched out a couple of her eggs and one of her chicks survived and is now in the cute awkward phase. She’s the kids’ favorite because she doesn’t mind being handled, at least sometimes, and she’s so fluffy and soft. Don’t want to go home and do a head count and come up one short tonight. :hit

I hope that the hatching goes well. I’ll pray that they are all still with us. :love

I had a BO disappear for a few weeks only to find she had gone broody and had nested right in my own back yard. Practically under my nose. Don't give up hope.
