I ran by my neighbors house early yesterday morning and there was a chick sitting in his yard. (He does not own chickens. Just cats ). It was not one of mine but was clearly injured, probably from one of his cats. Anyhow, I scooped it up and put it in one of my baby chick set ups ( as I am currently hatching) Well now I have this random chicken who I believe came from a nearby chicken house. What am I supposed to do with it?? I really didn’t expect it to live. And it acts different then my hand raised chicks. I’m scared to expose any of my chickens to it just in case. What do
I do?! Darn my love of creatures !

The friend I have who recommended this site to me has a chicken someone found in a cemetery. A tiny baby chick! She had a friend foster until s/he was old enough to join the rest of her girls. Do you have something you can put him in so he can see your chicks but be hygenically separated from them?

Yes he is in a separate bin. My dad says these chickens from chicken houses are mature at 10-12 weeks and have problems if not slaughtered. I’m not sure I can kill him.

Welcome to BYC - to both you AND your unexpected rescue baby!
If your new baby is sick, it likely won't last long enough to survive quarantine. If it's healthy, you'll know by the time your own eggs hatch and grow a bit whether or not you can put them together. For now, just keep your new guest warm and make sure it's eating and drinking. Some electrolytes would be a good idea, too.
Please keep us posted - and post some pictures, too ... please? We LOVE pictures, especially BABY pictures!
