rescue hen with abscess

Hi, i have a rescue hen that has an abscess on her leg. She has been with me for 4 days now. I have been treating her with probiotics and Electrolytes in her water. Im using triple antibiotic, antibiotic poultry spray and epson salt gel on the wound. she eats drinks her poo is normal and she can hobble walk. i need to try to drain it not sure how. I can’t afford to take her to a vet. I have 10 hens of my own. she is separated from them in a crate. I let her out by herself self to exercise and eat grass. she’s a sweetheart and i want to help her.

Hi, sorry to hear about your hen! Have you tried warm water epsom salt baths? I hear that works well. If you’re up to it use a sterile scalpel to make a small incision to drain. But try not to cut too deep or hit anything important. Keep the wound clean and apply antibiotic ointment without painkiller in it. I would try the non invasive soaks / efforts first to see what happens. Cutting can bring its own problems with infections, etc.
