rescue raising sussex

Our rescue hen got broody so we got some fertile eggs that might be sussex or part sussex. Should we do anything special since the chicks are going to get a lot bigger than the mother? They are hatching so need some ideas pronto.

I think no matter the size of the mama, she will do fine at protecting her chicks. Is she a bantam?

She seems bigger than a bantam. Favorite still though she is jumpy. She has calmed since we got her in March.

I have a friend whose mixed flock has both standard bantam sized chickens. She even had one super tiny one, looked like a mini brown leghorn or welsummer, and she always had the silkie raise the chicks. She did great protecting them from even the biggest hens.

The one is the smallest and pretty lean. The others are all like balls compared to her.
