This is Corndog. (name courtesy my 3yr/old son :)) We picked him up on the side of the highway a few weeks ago, miles into a stretch of uninhabited national forest. Presumably, he had been dumped, so we know nothing whatsoever about his background.
He's fresh out of quarantine and had a great first day with the flock today.
Just wondering if anyone might take a guess as to what manner of cross he might be and approximate age.
As far as disposition goes, he's an absolute gentleman (so far). Zero people aggression, and very attentive to the hens (he was already trying to feed them just an hour or so out of the kennel).

Including close up of spurs. Not sure if that can aid in age approximation, but I figured it couldn't hurt.

Thanks for any feedback!

Gorgeous roo! Im not a expert with breeds so sadly im not sure but he for sure looks like he has some rir in him to me! Love gentleroos!

Thanks! I've been looking at rooster pics for a while...
The feather pattern on his chest had me puzzled until I found a pic of a gold laced wyandotte roo. Some sort of cross there maybe?

He's beautiful, and I hope he rewards you for rescuing him with good behavior. He looks most like a Welsummer. He could pass for a hatchery Welsummer or a Welsummer cross.
Yup, I see what what you mean. Thank you!
He's my first rooster, and our tiny flock of ladies has never exceeded 5. We've had RIRs, BRs, and now have an Orp, a Bresse, and a GC. (a motley crew of hens for sure, but we love 'em) I have no idea what to look for in the boys.
Any thoughts on determining age?

His spurs are pretty short and the scales on his legs look fairly smooth. I would guess he's about 1 and a half to 3 years old.

I'm glad he is well behaved so far, but you definitely want to keep a very close eye on him when he has access to your child. If there are any signs of aggression at all towards humans you should either keep him cooped or pass him on rather than risking injury.
