Rescue rooster pt 2

You will need to be more aware of heat, than the cold. Heat can get chickens. Shade all day long - as it moves with the sun, and plenty of water.
I placed the coop in the corner of the backyard that gets the most shade. What kind of water bowl do you all use? I placed several medium dog-sized bowls around the backyard.

We have over 20 chickens, so we water in buckets. But a dog bowl can work. What's your weather like, does it freeze there? If so, you don't want him to drink out of a bowl that he has to dunk his wattles in, he'll get frostbite, a very painful condition. Google horizontal nipples for chickens. You install them in a five-gallon bucket, and in the winter set the bucket on an electric warmer. You can get all this stuff at your local feed store. Have you named him yet? Do you plan to get more chickens so he won't be lonely?

We freeze hard up here - so I use black rubber bowls in the winter, so I can stomp them out. Some people have heated bowls for the cold.

In the summer - I use a bucket with horizontal nipples. It is just a better way for me to keep a lot of water in the heat. However, I have a baker's dozen.

Soon, you might too? Let me tell you about chicken math!

I named him McFly :) I am not currently planning on adding more chickens. Which means then before I know it I'll have at least two more. LOL.
It does freeze here, once or twice per winter, which is only two months long. I'll get him ready for the cold weather comes December.
