Rescued 2 unwanted easter ducks tonight ** Pics Added!**

OK! Here they are!!

Aubry is the pekin, Duckie is the khaki campbell! Aubry was enjoying the mud puddle. I told the kids that I would leave their names the same and that I won;t rename them!

In this picture, June-bug is in the pool, Now it was Johnny's turn to enjoy the mud muddle. Aubry and Duckie are to the left. Do they look like they need weight to you? My Pekin's seem so chunky compared to them and there is only a 2 week difference in age.

They are getting closer to getting in! They were filthy and needed a good bath. Aubry never did make it in, he couldn;t figure it out and would run if I tried to help!

Oh how sweet! Aubry needs a little "nudge" I think. And I have never seen an overweight duck, so keep pushing that food. Great pics, thanks for rescuing them!

Those poor babies I feel so bad for children when their parents do that to their babies Talk about poor parenting choices.
I'm so glad you went and got them before they turned them in to the pound.

I agree here & I think even as far as an "Easter gift for children" we shouldn't punish everyone for the stupid ones. Stupid is as stupid does and so WHO buys a pet for their child (at Easter or any time) thinking when it gets bigger they'll just get rid of it???? The original poster rescued ducks from a family who did just that. They live in a neighborhood so they can't have a pet? 1st I'm not sure I get that and if that is the case that there is a ordinance or something then would the parents not have anticipated the heart break it would cause getting the ducks in the first place??? See that has nothing to do with "Easter time" or even minimums, because if they're stupid enough to get 2 ducklings with the thought they'll just get rid of them later then what makes anyone think being made to buy 6 or even 10 of them will stop those same people??? Their living conditions that aren't proper for 2 ducks didn't stop them & so why would 6 ducklings??

Mean while back at the ranch I've 2 ponds here on a 4 acre lot "in a neighborhood" & when the kids were little I too got them ducks for Easter and had no problem fitting them in here & taking care of them. Should I not be allowed to give a gift at a holiday just because some don't know how to say no to kids? And like you wifezilla I didn't really want 6 or 8 of them because I REALLY WAS going to care for them for the long haul & I just wanted 3 or 4 ducks that I thought would look cute on the ponds at the same time they'd enjoy them, which they did.... I think we need to be really careful before we go putting restrictions on everyone.

WOW- I'm sure that was uncomfortable taking the children's pets... BUT they are in a better life now, permanent not temporary.

Their neighborhood is IN town and is your classic new neighborhood, Newly built houses on less than a quarter acre. And yes, it did say no farm animals, poultry or waterfowl. Therefore, they are not allowed to have them and it was poor judgment on their end.

I'm kinda on both sides of this

But i did see alot of people at our tractor supply not buying ducks because of the minimum.
So maybe it's okay to do this at easter if it stops some from buying them as gifts. JMHO

I saw years back how cruel ducklings are treated It was the late 70s i was just a teen.
We had stopped at a garage sale my mom loved them.
I saw a large clay flower pot turned over in the grass and it was peeping.
I walked over to it and the woman said "Don't let that thing out" so i ask what it was.
A baby duck was under it she raised the pot and out popped the duck peeping loudly.
She said it was a gift for her toddler from grandma and she hated it.

I still think of that little duck now and then and wonder what happened to it
