Hi everybody. I'm new to the site. I was called out to a rescue this afternoon while I was doing my gardening, and it turned out to be a baby mallard! Cute as a button, healthy as a horse. Of course my first question was, can I keep em :-) ? But my rehabber told me no, as this too was illegal. I've rescued geese in the past, so I knew about the geese, but not the Ducks. I was curious to know what the difference was between a domestic Mallard, since I had Mallards as a child on a farm, and wild mallards, since I never noticed the difference. And I thought, who would notice ? So my question was quickly answered by finding this site from Google . Glad I found you guys! Anyhow this little guy is safely out in Orchard Park, NY now at the rehabbers. :)
