Rescued bird! Help please!!

I have been told she is maybe five weeks old?

I'm not sure what kind of pigeon or dove that is, looks more like a dove, but that is about how my 4-5 week old racing pigeons look, so I'd say you're right on your age estimation. I notice this mainly by the size ratio of its beak to its head--it's beak and cere looks like it still needs to grow into them.

But she seems so sad! Well not sad but ... Indoors she just sits doing nothing.

Not sure about doves or whatever that bird is, but that is pretty much how my 4-5 week old racing pigeons act, they just sort of sit in the corner in a nest box shelf or on the floor and just look around and don't engage in the activities the other pigeons are engaging in. It is a young bird, and likely a bit scared at that.

She sat there for a while preening and stretching (which she never done indoors) and looked so happy! Now she has gone. I wasn't watching so I don't know if she flew or not. I hope she is ok! My oldest daughter is very sad but I explained we rescued her from the nasty boy and let her rest for a few days to get her strength back. The whole point of rescue is to help and release not imprison indoors. If she was happy and liked us I could have considered it but it was clear she was happier outside and even though she is still at risk from dangers, they are the same risks as she had before and same as all the other fledglings out there!

I am a little sad she's gone but happy I helped her and had the privilege of holding her for a few days!

That is good news. It's always hard parting with animals that you take in to rehab or help out. This was an EXCELLENT lesson for your kids. Best wishes!

Hi. Your bird is a young Wood Pigeon for sure.

Well done for helping it. You did everything right.. and the food you gave it was perfect for this kind of pigeon.

It looks like its about old enough to look after itself now. Probably its parents are still about also.... so it might join up with them again. You said you have other wood pigeons about so it will definitely get attracted to them and learn how to survive and what to eat from them.. as they are very social birds.

Well done again... so nice to know there are still kind people about who will help animals.
