I'm actually getting Ethel emu, the little mu with the facebook page!

yep! she is a facebook friend of ours!

Ella is starting to like Ethel. She will share her swimming pool and her food bowl with her and she doesn't mind if my husband or my mother plays with her as long as I don't love on her. If I pay attention to her Ella will angrily chase her away and come back to me for a hug. I think in a few more weeks they will be friends. Little Ethel really wants to be friends she follows Ella around doing everything Ella does and pulling her tail feathers, I'm glad Ella is a very gentle bird. I still don't leave them alone together, they are in separate pens, side by side, if I'm not right there, we don't need an incident while I'm at work.

Just an update on my birdies.... Ella and Ethel are best buds now, they are together all the time, if one is doing something the other has to do the same thing, they graze together and swim in the same pool together, and chase each other around, they really seem to enjoy each others company. I finally got around to having them DNA tested and just found out this week that I actually have 2 boys which is really what I wanted because I'm not interested in breeding or all the behavior that goes with it, so heres my next question, are 2 boys likely to be buds for the long haul,? Ella is now 17 months Ethel is only going on 5 months and they are heavily played with and spoiled to death. Any info on the 2 guy with no female around dynamics would be appreciated.

What a surprise - well they could be Eli & Ethan - I think if there aren't any females near by to tease them - they could be BFF

well...they are likely to be rivals during mating season, even if there is no female to court. The good news is that that there is at least another year before they are both sexually mature. There are no hard set rules when it comes to emus so we are interested to see how they get along...

the latest rescued emu is now fat and happy, and the large spot behind its right thigh where it was injured has healed over and is now covered with black feathers, with the overlapping gray feathers beginning to come in...!
