Ok this question was most likely answered but just want to make sure with my situation. I posted pics of my new chicks and rescued hen this morning. Henna, the hen was a rescue because she was being picked on by other hens to the point of losing all her tail and hind end feathers.
I was looking for chicks Mille Fleur Bantam and found someone locally that had two. I went to look at them and took one of them. He also had mixed chicks that hatched the night before so I took two of them to keep the MF company. Then he asked if I wanted a 1 yr old hen that was being picked on. When he brought her in, it was an OMG situation. I had to take her or she would surly have gotten worse or been killed.
Now I have the hen and three chicks now two weeks old. They are all in the coop; However the chicks are separated by a hardware cloth pen in the coop so all can see each other and communicate and hang out.
Reading other posts I tried tonight to put the hen with the chicks at dusk and Henna pecked one of them and got a good hold of it and tossed it. No blood was drawn. We took her out immediately for she spread her wings in a threatening manner and the chicks went wild.

Now what? Help! Thanks.

Also, a neighbor just ordered 12 chicks and cant take them now. I can take them off his hands. I know I can put all the chicks together but what about Henna - when should I do that?

you put them together too soon. i would separate them again and wait until the chiks are about the size of the adults

I agree with five is my dog. Wait until they're older and then slip them into the coop at night after the older ones have gone to bed. Keep a close eye on them the next day or two to make sure everything is ok. It's good you have more little ones as there is strength in numbers. I have five 5 week old chicks I'm waiting to put in with my 4 month old pullets. Good luck and sorry you had to go through that stress.
