rescued horse.. what to feed to help with weight?

The Morgan mare I recently got has obviously been abused in the past, is really mistrustful, especially of men. It took me a while to get her to trust me, but now she will come to me in the pasture. I would go every day after work and just sit there while she paced and ran past me. Eventually, she would stop to graze, a little closer each time. Finally after a couple hours, she actually walked right past a couple feet away. The next day a little closer, then a sniff at my hand as she went by. It took about a week, but she finally took a treat from my hand. Before that, we had to corner her and make a grab for her halter. Once you got hold of her she would calm a little and once she was saddled she settled down a lot.
The secret was in just accepting what she was doing and showing her that I wasn't going to hurt her or grab her etc. Now, after 3 weeks, I can go into the 40 acre pasture and whistle and call and she comes running! (she STILL makes me give her a treat before she'll let me have her halter, she's no dummy!)

PATIENCE!

My favorites for putting weight back on are Purina Senior Feed, Beat Pulp, and corn oil. Of course free choice hay and water. Purina Senior feed is a complete feed, and works amazingly.

My sister in law had a horse like that. She fed it and fed and it didn't put on weight. The Ferrier told he to do a super worm treatment on her. She looks great now and has gained back all her weight. The super wormer is a 5 day treatment for worms. Hope this helps.

How is the horse? We rescued a gelding in March and it is such a rewarding job! Iwill try and post a pic....if you can post pictures of yours...
