Rescued these Muscovy's.... What is wrong with them (Pic)

Just brought this drake and 3 hens home today. Feathers are in bad shape. Wing and tail feathers are going bald. The dirt on them tell me they had no access to bathing. Not sure they even know what a pool is. They finally got in mine and when wet the feathers look horrible and thin and the drake was shaking like he was cold. Not sure if they are in a molt or I'm dealing with mites. Hopefully the pic will help. Also I noticed some sores on some bare spots. I got them on a high protein feed, a vitamin water and access to a pool. I'm thinking about dusting them tonight with a poultry dust as well. Never had ducks look this bad and I take care of my mine so I never experienced this.

Bless their hearts. Glad you got them. Probably wouldn’t hurt to dust them since they haven’t had access to bathing water. Sounds like they are in good hands now.

So, I got them dusted with a poultry dust, active ingredient is permethrin. Before doing so I just watched them for a bit. They were doing a lot of twitching, so to speak and slightly lifting their wings. They seemed like something was irritating them. If anyone has experienced this, please share.

My Muscovy's an Runners do that too I don’t know if they are cooling off or what but it’s natural behavior they do it after they have been In the pool too.

Get in there and take a good look for external parasites. Nutrition, stress, or possibly internal parasites may contribute to their condition as well.

I think the drake has wet feather.

He may have and you might not see a lot of improvement in their feathers till they molt. Are you in the USA? If so most Muscovy’s molt in late fall mine do anyway. Giving him some extra protein a couple times a week can help some use a good quality dry cat food. Fish based.

I am eastern part of US too so most likely your scovys will molt in the fall then their feathers will be beautiful. So just feed them good and give fresh swimming water they be beautiful soon.

That's the result of abject neglect. Those ducks are very lucky that you found them. Clean quarters, adequate diet, a chance to bathe, a molt and they will be completely different birds.
